Ok so i tried to install win2k and xp on to the Maxtor on IDE 3 the promise connector. Couldnt install cos no drive could be found..hmm
So i disconnected the CDRW on IDE1 and connected the Maxtor 20 gig (to be system disk) on to IDE 1 as master. I sucessfully installed win XP. I put the Gigabyte cd in a installed the promise driver. Rebooted to check that promise was recognised in hardware manager. All was cool but the Seagate drive did not show up in 'My Computer' but in device manager under disk drives i see 'raid disk ST360011A' i cant seem to use this drive for some reason. I just want it to be a single drive no raid 0 or 1.
I shut machine down, disconnected the maxtor from IDE 1 put the CDRW back on IDE 1 and put maxtor back on IDE 3 promise. Machine wont boot when on IDE 3.
Bios has Raid/SCSI set then HDD0 as first boot drive. When it tries to boot it gets to the fast track bit an control+7 dont work then it hangs on 'Verifying DMI pool' or similar.
Anyone know how i can get this system to boot using this maxtor on Promise IDE 3 as a single drive and be able to use the seagate 60 gig on promise IDE 4 as a single drive for recording video and audio to?
Help would be appreciated. I only know Mac's an this is the first time i have ever used and built a PC..so this is unexplored terrain for me
